Wholesalers have aligned their systems to the new ZiG currency which is now seamlessly facilitating trading in the production and retail value chain.

Chief Executive Officer of food-producing company, Davipel Limited, Mr Davison Norupiri has confirmed they are trading with wholesalers and retailers in all currencies including ZiG and expect to meet all statutory obligations when they fall due.

“As a manufacturer, we have embraced the new currency and our products are being sold in all currencies including ZiG. Our customers who are mainly wholesalers are buying using the ZiG currency because they are subsequently selling in ZiG so the cycle is working very well.”

At one leading wholesaler, N Richards in Harare, traders and retailers were transacting in ZiG with the wholesaler displaying prices in local currency.

“I run many shops and have been buying using ZiG, the currency is buying and has maintained stability which is good for business,” said a consumer.

“Our plea is that there be enough notes and coins to support trading, especially for change but overally the currency is transacting well,” added a consumer.

The company’s manager, Mr Archie Dongo also indicated that wholesalers have also configured their systems to the new currency regime.

“We took time to realign our systems since the currency was introduced but we have successfully configured our systems hence our customers are enjoying the convenience of transacting in all currencies including ZiG. Many of our competitors are trading in the ZiG currency.”

Most retailers in the country are also seamlessly transacting in the new currency to complete the entire production and trading cycle amid calls for monetary authorities to increase the availability of the ZiG notes and coins.
