Story by Memory Chamisa

THE Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) has launched its digital contribution system to DSTV as the national broadcaster strives to give viewers quality programming.

ZBC continues to cement its presence as a tried and tested broadcasting station, with the national broadcaster launching its digital contribution system to DSTV in Harare this Thursday.

The new digital Internet Protocol and Multi-channel-based transmission system will facilitate direct transmission of digital signals from ZBC to DSTV thereby improving picture quality.

The event was graced by the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Senator Monica who was impressed by the strides the national broadcaster has made in improving picture quality and programming.

“I am pleased by the strides that the ZBC has made in improving its picture quality and programming. Gone are the days when ZBC was synonymous with poor picture quality. Following a public outcry over poor programming and picture quality, I am proud to say that you paid attention and addressed the public concerns,” noted Minister Mutsvangwa.

“Let me hasten to say you have a reputation for producing high-quality content that is both informative and entertaining thus competing with international broadcasters. The launch of the ZBC Digital Contribution System to DSTV is yet another example of how the Second Republic is serious about investing in technological innovation able to compete with established giants in the media industry.”

“However, I urge you to keep improving your programming as you have stiff competition from other broadcasters. Government recognizes the critical role that you play in informing, educating and entertaining the nation, and we will continue to provide the necessary support to ensure that you remain at the top of the game,” the Minister added.

ZBC Vice Board Chairperson, Ambassador Thomas Bvuma reiterated the national broadcaster’s commitment to ensuring viewers’ needs and expectations are met.

“The national broadcaster is committed in providing quality programming and services to its viewers who are the main stakeholders. One of the numerous projects that ZBC has been working on is the upgrade of the DSTV contribution system,” he said.

“This project is aimed at generating technical capacity and improving the quality of service to ZBC’s customers. The strategic intent is to improve the quality of ZBC TV channel 280 on DSTV. In addition, the system will enable onboarding of up to 4 ZBC Television channels on DSTV without additional hardware cost.”

ZBC chief executive officer, Ms Adelaide Chikunguru highlighted the significance of the system in stamping the corporation’s presence in the media industry.

“I am happy to report that the system was successfully installed, tested, and commissioned by ZBC and MultiChoice engineers. Tremendous quality improvements were observed, and we have received positive feedback since the system went live.

“This is a significant milestone for ZBC, and we are proud to have taken this step towards providing high-quality content to our viewers,” Ms Chikunguru asserted.
