THE ruling ZANU PF party has intensified its voter mobilisation exercise across the country with youths being urged to take a central role in defending the country’s sovereignty.
In an interview with ZBC News at a rally held in Buhera this Sunday, ZANU PF Deputy-Secretary for Youth Affairs, Honourable John Paradza highlighted the strategies that have been employed to expand the party’s support base driven by the youth dividend.
“As the ruling party, we are always meeting the people, especially within our grassroots bases. As the youth league leadership, we are implementing several strategies with the view to lure more youths to the party and to remind them of their role, that is, to defend the ruling party,” he said.
“We have brought soccer balls so that our youths engage in sporting activities where we meet and teach them party ideologies as we all discourage them from drug and substance abuse.”
The ZANU PF Manicaland Provincial leadership is also convinced that the province will surpass its projected 800 000 votes in the general elections.
“I am happy that the party is seriously considering young people to contest and hold key positions. We are quite impressed by the participation of our members in the recently held internal primary elections not only in Manicaland but the country at large,” said ZANU PF Youth League Chairperson, Cde Stanley Sakupwanya.
“It, therefore, motivates the youths to participate within our party process because the President Cde ED Mnangagwa has demonstrated that young people are also important in the party,” he added.
Zanu PF Women’s League Chairperson Cde Happiness Nyakuedzwa reiterated, “As the Women’s League we are also rallying alongside the Youth League and all other wings of the party to push for a better result for our President.”
“In 2018 Manicaland did not perform well in the elections so we are really putting all hands on the deck to ensure we deliver for our President.”
With primary elections now over, the focus is on the general elections expected to be held between July and August this year.
