Victoria Falls Community on Unity Day

IN the majestic spray of the Mosi-oa-Tunya, the thunderous Victoria Falls seems to echo the resounding sentiment of its people: gratitude for the Unity Accord and a renewed commitment to national unity as Zimbabwe prepares to celebrate Unity Day this Friday.
The spray from the mighty Victoria Falls shimmers in the morning sun, mirroring the joyful spirit that is also engulfing Zimbabwe’s tourism capital.
Ahead of the Unity Day commemorations set for Friday, the people of Victoria Falls have reflected on an even deeper meaning of the Unity Accord in a city with a vibrant rainbow community and diverse cultures.
“Before the Accord, fear clouded the beauty of this place. Now, I can proudly preach to anyone and in any language at any place. We can show visitors our history, both the triumphs and the scars, knowing that together, we are writing a brighter future,” said Methodist Revival Church Reverend, Travena Chichoni.
“Unity is the bedrock on which Victoria Falls thrives. We are a town built on tourism, where guests from all corners of the globe come together. If we, the locals, cannot stand united, how can we welcome the world with open arms,” said Victoria Falls Combined Residence Association Chairperson Mr Kelvin Moyo.
The Junior Provincial Minister, Honourable Confate Muleya also added his voice on the matter.
“This town is a melting pot. You hear Shona, Ndebele, and English all languages blending like the waters at the falls. Unity allows us to share our stories, our traditions, and build bridges without prejudice. Unity gives young people an opportunity to discover themselves and prosper. Unity allows a country to thrive in every aspect therefore it must cherished by all,” said the junior Minister.
For Victoria Falls, this Unity Day serves as a reminder that harmony is not simply the absence of conflict, but also the active weaving of diverse threads into a tapestry of hope, progress and shared prosperity.
