Turkey moves to assist tell the African story

Turkish public broadcaster, Turkish Radio and Television (TRT), launched TRT Afrika this Friday, a new digital platform to promote the packaging of balanced stories about the realities of Africa’s development.

The platform is in line with TRT’s objectives of impartial and inclusive journalism.

TRT which mainly operates in four languages which are English, French, Hausa and Swahili, went live this Friday during the second day of the First Broadcasting Summit organised by TRT and the African Union of Broadcasting in Istanbul.

Zimbabwe is among nations participating at this linkage platform, with expectations that such a synergy will be critical to tell a balanced story about the realities of the country’s development and success stories to the global community, according to Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation Chief Executive Officer Ms Adelaide Chikunguru.

“TRT Africa is a digital space launched by Turkish Radio and Television is the public broadcaster for Turkey. They launched a very strong African campaign on digital media space this Friday. TRT Afrika is now available on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn.

“It is a digital media space meant for Africans all over the world to share stories which are going to be pushed without any bias. Africans can share cultural, political, social and economic stories. The CEO of African Union of Broadcasters also gave his presentation thanking TRT for this initiative. The platform is dedicated to providing its audience with exclusive stories and unique digital content. We also had the launch of TRT Afrika attended by CEOs of national broadcasters in Africa. It was held on the 31st of March. The programme was sponsored by the Turkish government as part of their Look to Africa policy which they have been aggressively pursuing.”

TRT Africa is a new addition to the TRT family which includes TRT World, TRT Arabic, TRT Russian, TRT Balkan, TRT Francais, and TRT Deutsch.

With members from several African countries, TRT Afrika’s aim is to become a trusted news source in the continent featuring global stories significant to African audiences.
