SADC pleased with Zim’s progress to host summit

Story by John Nhandara

THE SADC Secretariat has expressed satisfaction with the country’s preparedness to host the SADC Heads of State and Government Summit in August this year.

Southern African Development Community (SADC) Executive Secretary Mr Elias Magosi paid a courtesy call on Vice President General Retired Dr Constantino Chiwenga in Harare this Tuesday evening where he expressed satisfaction with the country’s preparedness to host the SADC Heads of State Summit set for August this year.

“Our notes as SADC are in line with what Zimbabwe is doing. The country is on course in doing what we want as the SADC Secretariat,” he said.

Mr Magosi also said the summit will be an opportunity for SADC leaders to witness several infrastructural development projects being undertaken in the country for the benefit of Zimbabwe and the region at large.

“We will take the opportunity for our SADC member states to appreciate infrastructural development projects being undertaken in the country. It is how we will be visible as SADC member states,” he added.

The discussions also centred on the need to lift illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the West.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to assume chairmanship of the regional bloc when the country hosts the SADC summit in August this year.
