Russia wheat donation boosts Zim’s food and nutrition security

Story by Owen Mandovha, Business Reporter

THE wheat donation from the Russian Federation has arrived in Zimbabwe and is expected to further cement Zimbabwe’s food and nutrition security status.

The consignment of 25 000 tonnes of wheat is now stored in silos at the Grain Marketing Board depot in Aspindale, Harare.

The Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Honourable Vangelis Haritatos inspected the stocks this Friday afternoon and reflected on the strong bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and Russia.

“The wheat donation shows that Zimbabwe and Russia are indeed true friends and we are happy that these will augment the national stocks of wheat which will further harness our food security,” he said.

Zimbabwe is among the four African countries which have received wheat and fertiliser donations from the Russian Federation, a plus for the Second Republic’s engagement and re-engagement agenda.
