Road works to be completed in time for SADC
THE Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (ZINARA) is working with relevant government departments to disburse funds for road works in preparation for the SADC Summit.
Zimbabwe will host the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit in August this year and all hands are on deck across various sectors as the country prepares to host a successful event.
Among the major works is the construction of roads that lead to the Summit venue in Mount Hampden.
The road works encompass Nemakonde Road, formerly known as Lomagundi as well as Boulevard Road.
ZINARA board chairperson, Dr George Manyaya told ZBC News that they are working in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development as well as Treasury to ensure ongoing works are completed in time for the summit.
“As ZINARA, we are mandated to collect funds and it’s our duty that we also disburse those funds. So added to the other road rehabilitation we are doing, we would like to confirm that we are working with the Ministry of Transport and Treasury to make sure that there is adequate funding to ensure we beat the deadlines,” he said.
Dr Manyaya also clarified that ongoing road works have not affected disbursement of funds for other road construction projects.
He added, “This project is not affecting other roads we are doing, all those who are acquitting we are disbursing to them.”
According to information from ZINARA, the entity disbursed a total of 235 billion ZiG for road works in the first quarter of the year.
