Residents of Chivhu welcome town facelift

Story by Jerold Sasa, Mashonaland East Bureau

The Harare–Masvingo-Beitbridge highway project has changed the face of Chivhu town with massive road works taking place in the area.

The highway falls under the Chikomba Rural District Council.

Two traffic circles have been constructed in Chivhu and so is the main through road and the western by-pass which is now being used by those who have no business in town.

This development has delighted residents, who have witnessed the transformation of their town within a short period of time.

“We are very happy that this programme has seen our town developing in terms of roads which will bring investments,” said a resident.

Another resident noted, “This development shows that the government cares about its people and our town is set to grow through this road network.”

The responsible local authority is also satisfied with the facelift of the area.

“Chivhu has since moved towards attaining town status so this project has come as a boost for us as a local authority,” Chikomba RDC chairperson, Cde Israel Dhikinya.

The development comes at a time Chivhu, which appointed a town management board last year, is also to benefit from the completion of Chivhu Dam which is set to be commissioned soon to boost the water supply system.
