THE battle for promotion to the Premier Soccer League from the Central Region Division One league goes a gear up this weekend with a top of the table clash on the cards as TelOne clash with Tongogara at Ascot Stadium in Gweru this Saturday.

Ascot Stadium might be missing premiership football but this Saturday it hosts two former PSL sides; TelOne and Tongogara, who are keen to return to the topflight.

The two teams are undefeated so far after 11 rounds of matches, but TelOne have a six-point advantage over second placed, Tongogara.

Log leaders, TelOne are on 29 points, while army side Tongogara are on 23 ahead of their clash this Saturday.

Tongogara will need a victory to reduce the gap between them and TelOne, while the WiFi Boys would want to create breathing room and gain an upper hand in the battle for promotion.

TelOne were relegated from the Premier Soccer league in 2019, while Tongogara’s memories of the PSL are slowly fading after their demotion in 2000.

In other matches, third placed ZPC Munyati take on struggling Amazon, while Shabanie Mine face Kwekwe United, with FC Platinum’s developmental side battling Blanket Mine at Gresham Stadium.

In the Eastern region, the Masvingo derby between new kids on the block; FC Wangu Mazodze and perennial campaigners Masvingo United at Mucheke stadium this Saturday is clearly the headline act.

The two teams have contrasting fortunes on and off the field, which should make the match an interesting encounter.

FC Wangu Mazodze are on top of the log after beating Tenax last week, while Masvingo United are in the middle of the table, with the league just past the halfway mark.

Elsewhere, Tenax take on Manica Diamonds, Rusitu Tigers are up against Mutare City Rovers, Buffaloes face FC Hunters as Rwnco Mine battles Surrey FC.

Moving onto the Southern Region, log leaders Arenel are up against Bosso 90 at White City Stadium, second placed Talen Vision battle DRC United while third placed ZPC Hwange visit Casymin,

All matches are set for Saturday.

Meanwhile, there is no action in the Northern region as the league is on a mid-season break.
