PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa is this Friday set to commission the Kamativi Mine Spodumene Processing Plant.
Once a vibrant mine known for tin production, the entity shut down in 1994.
30 years later, it is re-opening as a lithium mine, bringing back life to Kamativi which had become a ghost town and providing jobs for the community.
Under the first phase, the aim is to produce 100 000 tonnes of lithium concentrate per year .
A number of new mines are opening under the Second Republic and apart from Kamativi Mine , Sabi Star Mine in Buhera and Zulu Lithium Mine in Matabeleland South are set to boost the country’s lithium production.
