LIBERATION War Heroine, Cde Margaret Nyathi was laid to rest at the Matabeleland South Provincial Heroes Acre in Gwanda this Monday.

A sombre atmosphere engulfed the Jahunda community in Gwanda at the burial of a gallant daughter of the soil, Cde Nyathi, who died on Thursday last week.

“We have lost a mother, a sister and above all someone who believed in whatever she was doing. We are heartbroken,” said family spokesperson, Ms Siphetokuhle Nyathi.

“She never sold out, she stood for ZANU PF wherever she was, we are devastated. We can never replace her,”noted one of the local party members who attended her burial.

“She stood for all the non-combatant cadres, and she never looked back. As non-combatants group, we have lost a leader,” another party member.

Matabeleland South Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Abedinico Ncube took the opportunity to remind the citizenry of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s clarion call for peace before, during and after elections.

“Let me remind you that we will be having general elections on the 23rd of August this year. I would like to encourage everyone her present to uphold peace and shun violence during and after elections,” he said.

Born in 1958, Cde Nyathi was a crop of ZIPRA cadres who joined the liberation struggle in 1978 and stayed at Selibe Pikwe and Dukwe Camp before training.

After independence Cde Nyathi dedicated his life to ZANU PF and she was the Provincial Chairperson of the non-combatants cadres.

She is survived by three children.
