THE Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade has been challenged to develop robust strategies for measuring the success of Zimbabwe’s re-engagement efforts.
As the Second Republic continues to embark on its endeavour to become a friend to all and an enemy to none, the need to develop long-term re-engagement strategies that ensure sustainable development of Zimbabwe came under the spotlight during the induction workshop of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
Speaker of the National Assembly, Advocate Jacob Mudenda underscored the need for the committee to go beyond mere diplomatic interactions and focus on securing concrete outcomes that propel sustainable economic development in the country.
“Working hand in glove with other parliamentary portfolio committees the committee for foreign affairs and internal trade must work toward promoting laws that promote peace and good governance. This is a pre-condition for the ease of doing business within Zimbabwe and countries outside Zimbabwe. In that regard the committee must therefore ensure that the legal environment is conducive for investment is conducive to trade with other countries,” he said.
Zimbabwe is taking steps to affirm, engage and re-engage with the global community of nations aimed at attracting investment and stimulate sustainable economic growth.
