NIGERIA’S Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been sworn in as the new President of Nigeria, promising to reform the security doctrine and architecture in a bid to fight insecurity.

A colourful ceremony held at Eagle Square in Abuja; Nigeria ushered in a new administration under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of more than 50 countries including Zimbabwe, South Africa, Liberia, and Japan.

President Tinubu took the oath of office as crowds cheered on and saluted their new leader.

In his inauguration speech, President Tinubu said he aspires to create a Nigeria that seeks peace while strengthening the bonds of economic collaboration and social cohesion.

He further enunciated his administration’s aspirations in sectors such as security, agriculture, and infrastructure development.

Representing President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Vice President General Rtd Dr Constantino Chiwenga congratulated Nigeria for having a peaceful transmission of power at the Abuja ceremony.

He further expressed hope for the resuscitation of the Zimbabwe-Nigeria Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation (JPCC) as Zimbabwe explores economic diplomacy under the National Development Strategy One.

As Nigeria continues to face challenges of insurgency from extremist groups such as Boko Haram, there is however hope that the new administration will be able to contain the violence in the spirit of silencing the guns as aspired by the African Union.
