THE newly sworn-in Health Service Commission has pledged to improve health service delivery in the country.

Seven members of the Health Service Commission and two members of the Public Service Commission took their oaths of office before President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House in Harare this Wednesday.

Chaired by Dr. Vincent Hungwe, other members of the Health Service Commission include Dr Abigail Kangwende who is the Deputy Chairperson, Brigadier General (Retired) Dr Gerald Gwinji, Dr Edward Makondo, Mr Angelbert Mbengwa, Mrs Josephine Mwakutuya and Mrs Mercy Gwaunza.

The two members who have been added to the Public Service Commission are Ambassador James Manzou and Dr Millicent Mombeshora.

Dr Hungwe says the commission is ready to work with the Ministry of Health and Child Care to come up with strategic interventions to improve service delivery.

He said, “One of the most important institutions responsible for service delivery is the Ministry of health and Child Care and it needs support of the commission in terms of more clearly defining its strategic its organisational purposes and the strategic intervention it will drive forward in health service delivery. The nature of the strategic interventions that it will need to drive forward the health sector. They will also be provided with efficient support to structure themselves in a manner that enables them to execute their duties and will also help to select the people that can perform those duties.”

Meanwhile, Public Service Commissioner, Dr Mombeshora says the Public Service Commission is tasked with improving working conditions for the civil service.

“It’s an honor to be on the board. The greatest thing is to look at the conditions of service for the civil service so that they are improved and motivated and they improve on service delivery,” he said.

The commission has an oversight role of keeping line ministries in check in the execution of their duties.
