Neville Mutsvangwa released on bail

Story by Peter Chivhima

HARARE businessman Neville Mutsvangwa and his two accomplices facing charges of illegally dealing in foreign currency have been released on bail.

Mutsvangwa and his accomplices Ellisse Majachani and Simbarashe Tichingana who are facing three charges of illegally dealing in foreign currency have been freed on a US$1000 bail each.

“I am now relieved that my clients have been granted bail because it was almost a month running up and down trying to secure bail,” said the trio’s lawyer, Josephine Sande.

In granting bail, High Court Judge, Justice Rodgers Manyangadze ruled that the Harare Provincial Magistrate failed to explain how the trio could flee the court’s jurisdiction despite Mutsvangwa being arrested in dramatic fashion.

The High Court judge also stated that the Magistrates Court did not consider stringent conditions that would curtail the trio from absconding.

The trio was arrested early this month and was denied bail by the Harare Magistrates Court because they were a flight risk.

Mutsvangwa is also facing another charge for contravening the Postal and Telecommunications Act after he was allegedly found using a Starlink router without a licence.
