POLICE have released the names of the 13 people who perished in the Chivhu bus disaster on Sunday while their bodies have been taken from the Chivhu hospital mortuary for burial.
It was a sombre atmosphere as relatives of the people who perished in the Chivhu bus disaster on Sunday collected the bodies of their loved ones from Chivhu Hospital for burial.
The families thanked the government for assistance after the accident was declared a national disaster and called for caution on the roads to avoid loss of lives.
With the government having declared the accident a national disaster, the state has availed assistance to the deceased’s families.
“We worked well with the families to process burial orders and hired a local parlour to do all the burial arrangements,” said Chikomba District Development Coordinator, Mr Michael Mariga.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has since released the names of the deceased who have been identified as Lilian Taranhike (30) of Manyame Airbase in Harare, Esnath Taruvinga (75), Jenifer Rima (64), Maria Gwatidzo (43) and Flora Malungeni (46) all of Chief Nerutanga, Buhera.
The others are Clifford Zvenyika (40), Irene Chikwati and Percylin Chitondwe (36) all of Murambinda in Buhera, Zakariya Makonese (51) of Chikomba, Beatrice Nyambira (48) of Morris Depot in Harare, Tafadzwa Rerayi of Nyashanu, Esnath Mubaiwa (62) of Hatcliffe and Lovemore Matsivo (31) of Chivhu.
Meanwhile, three people died, while 22 others were injured after a Mandaza Bus was involved in an accident near Goto Business Centre, along the Harare – Hwedza road this Monday.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed that the accident happened when the driver of the bus lost control when he tried to overtake another vehicle, leading to a side swipe that saw the bus swerving, landing on its side and trapping some passengers.
