NAMAs to be held on the 24th of February

NAMAs to be held on the 24th of February

Story by Patience Nyagato

THE 22nd edition of the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) is set to be taken outside Harare for the first time in over a decade with the City of Bulawayo hosting the event in February next year.

Preparations for the prestigious awards opened with a call for entries this month and will see a NAMA golf day on the 10th of November in Bulawayo where the business community is expected to create synergies with artists.

Director of National Arts Merit Awards, Napoleon Nyanhi said, “The awards opened with this conference where we are opening entries. Although they have been open since. We also have a golf day on the 10th of November which is part of the awards. The main idea is that artists interface with the business community in a relaxed manner. We tried conferences and all, but we found sport as a go between the two sectors, and golf is ideal. And this will be the fourth year where we are running the golf day.”

“This edition, expect something you have never seen. This year with the aim of taking the event to other provinces we have resorted to Bulawayo. We had not found venues in other provinces that could host such an event. NAMA will be held on the 24 of February. We also reviewed our categories and among other issues, the media award is now under special awards,” said National Arts Council Director, Nicholas Moyo.

Event organisers also revealed that categories have been reviewed with the media category now a special award that is not based on entries.
