Muvevi further detained to assist police with investigation

Story by Fungai Jachi, Courts Reporter

Murder suspect Jaison Muvevi, who gunned down three people in Wedza last week, has appeared in court.

In his court appearance this Wednesday, the court granted the police request to further detain the triple murder suspect for further investigations.

The warrant for further detention issued by the court will give the police more time with Muvevi after the investigating officer told the court that they intend to take him to Wedza for the indications.

Police have been given up to Friday 10am to bring back the murder suspect to court for him to be formally placed on remand awaiting trial.

Muvevi, who had fled to Mozambique, was arrested in the neighboring country on Monday before he was brought back to Zimbabwe this Tuesday.

He is accused of shooting and killing 62-year-old apostolic set leader Crispen Mubvana Kanerusine at a shrine in Wedza before turning the gun on the Officer in Charge of Wedza police station Inspector Maxwell Hove aged 43 and a 20-year-old bartender Munashe Mujanhi.

It is also alleged that he shot and critically injured Detective Constable Tendai Mugova who was part of the police team which responded after Muvevi killed his first victim.

Muvevi is expected back in court on Friday to be formally placed on remand.
