Mpilo development projects on course

Story by Grace Sibanda

THE country’s health sector is poised for growth as evidenced by development projects which are underway at one of the country`s referral hospitals, Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo.

The hospital boasts of a modern Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), which is under construction, an incinerator that is set to be functional by the end of the year, along with the construction of doctors’ accommodation.

In a bid to also improve dental services, the hospital’s dental unit is due for completion by the end of the year.

Mpilo Clinical Director Professor Solwayo Ngwenya gave an update on how the government`s efforts are going a long way in improving the country`s health sector.

“The country`s health is indeed poised for growth as the government continues to ensure that the hospitals have state-of-the-art machinery and making sure that doctors and nurses have proper accommodation. This also ensures that our health workers are motivated and that the people who are our patients have trust in the country`s health services,” he said.

The government under the Second Republic is on a drive to build a stronger and more resilient healthcare sector in line with the objective of universal health coverage.
