THE people of Mhondoro Mubaira have warmly welcomed the upgrading of Mhondoro Rural District Hospital, which now offers specialist health services.
The commissioning of the newly upgraded hospital, which now boasts of a theatre, a maternity wing and a reticulated water system, among other improvements.
The development will ease challenges faced by patients who previously would seek advanced health care services in Chegutu, Kadoma and Harare
“This is a very welcome development. We now have health care services at our doorstep,” said a happy resident.
“For us women, the construction of a maternity wing at the hospital brings us some joy,” noted another resident.
“As you can see I have problems with my eyesight and each time I would go to Kadoma or Chegutu where there are doctors but now I am happy I will now be able to consult the resident doctor for services,” added another resident.
Upgraded under a Public Private Partnership, the Mhondoro Rural Hospital project is part of ZIMPLATS’ corporate social responsibility initiatives.
“We have spent US$200 million on community social responsibility programmes over the past two decades. We believe in creating shared value for our stakeholders,” said Zimplats CEO Mr Alex Mhemhere.
The political leadership in Mashonaland West welcomed the life-transforming initiative and hailed the importance of Public-Private Partnerships.
“We salute the good rapport between Zimplats and the community. As a country we continue to strive towards attaining rural health infrastructure development,” said Minister of State for Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honourable Mary Mliswa.
The development comes as the government is pursuing an inclusive development agenda based on the mantra: ‘leaving no one and no place behind.’
