Mambas sting Eagles as Division One begins shaping up

NORTHERN Region Division One log leaders Black Mambas kept alive their chances of regaining promotion to the Premier Soccer League after dispatching Golden Eagles one-nil at Ellis Robbins on Saturday to remain at the top on 37 points from 17 matches.

Former premiership outfit Harare City also kept alive their chase after thrashing Chinhoyi Stars 3-1 to maintain the second spot on 32 points, five behind Mambas.

ZRP Harare also edged Karoi United 2-1 as Pam FC eased past Shamva United 1-nil.

In the Central Region, log leaders TelOne were victorious in the Gweru derby after beating fellow aspirants MSU two-nil.

TelOne are at the summit of the log with 26 points and have a six-point advantage over second-placed fellow former premiership side Tongogara who were held to a nil-all draw by FC Platinum developmental side.

ZPC Munyati is third with 21 points after beating Dulibadzimu one-nil, while FC Platinum U19 conclude the top four with 20 points.

Championship runners in the Southern Region ZPC Hwange and Arenel squared off in a top-of-the-log affair. In the end, Arenel walked away with the bragging rights after hammering their fellow contenders 3-1.

Bosso-90 continued on a losing streak after suffering a one-nil loss to Adachi as Jordan Sinotti beat Plumtree’s Mainline two-nil.

In the Eastern region, the battle for promotion took another shape after FC Wangu Mazodze thrashed Tenax three-nil at Mucheke Stadium on Saturday.

The victory saw Masvingo-based Wangu Mazodze moving into first position with 30 points from 13 matches, while former premiership side Tenax has slipped to second with 28 points.

In the other matches, Midway beat Chiredzi Stars one-nil while Surrey edged Masvingo United 2-1.
