IRAN has reaffirmed its commitment to fulfil the 12 cooperation agreements signed with Zimbabwe under their late former leader, President Ebrahim Raisi.
Vice President General (Rtd) Dr Constantino Chiwenga consoled Iran’s Special Envoy in Zimbabwe, Ambassador Abbas Navazani, after the death of President Ebrahim Raisi.
They then held a crucial meeting on trade relations between Tehran and Harare.
After the meeting, Ambassador Navazani said the scope of their discussion was anchored on the trade and economic agreements crafted last year.
“We discussed several issues focusing on the trade relations signed under the late President Raisi. All these agreements will be followed through because our supreme leader stated there will be no change in foreign policy following the death of President Raisi.”
Iran and Zimbabwe signed 12 agreements to boost bilateral relations between Tehran and Harare, including plans to create a tractor manufacturing plant in Zimbabwe.
Iran also seeks cooperation in energy, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and telecommunications as well as research, science and technology projects.
“These projects will soon be implemented. We spoke about making sure that we implement these areas of agreement, and this will be done in the future,” said Ambassador Navazani.
Iran-Zimbabwe relations were further bolstered last month when Vice President Chiwenga attended the Second edition of the Iran-Africa International Economic Conference in Tehran.
