Story by Wellington Makonese

THE country is on course to meet the revised 1 million housing units target by 2025 with private players complementing government efforts through low income earners projects.

Government endeavours to provide adequate housing and basic social services for low income earners has received buy in from private players with six more projects launched in Harare by a private player.

The projects will feed into the national target revised to 1 million housing units by 2025 from the 225 000 which was attained in July this year.

“We have six projects, Sun City, Sunway, Ashdown Park, Chishawasha, Chiedza Park, and that’s our biggest that accommodates around 5 000, our target is to have everyone on board and having around 10 000 between now and next year,” said General Manager Romapix Private Limited, Ms Ruvimbo Gwaze.

The Second Republic has been applauded for creating an environment that ensures fulfilment of Human Settlement Policy.

“We sat down and made sure we conscientise our business people to compliment government for an upper middle income society by 2030. They are looking at those who sell tomatoes to have a roof over their head. We now have contractors bill that compels one to follow dictates,” noted
Zimbabwe Building Contractors Association former president, Eng Christopher Mawere.

ZANU PF Politburo Deputy Secretary for Economic Affairs, Cde Andy Mhlanga said, “We are there to support areas that are open businesses, focusing on low income , these are the kind of projects His Excellency is willing to support; progressive programs.”

The projects are in line with National Development Strategy 1 and National Human Settlement Policy on provision of affordable accommodation with the President also set to officiate at the Official Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Millennium Heights in Borrowdale this Monday.
