The Minister of Defence, Honourable Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri is in Egypt participating in the Egypt Defence Expo, (EDEX) on the invitation of her counterpart.

The 3rd Edition of EDEX is being held under the patronage the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Supreme Commander of the Egyptian Armed Forces, His Excellency Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

President El Sisi officially opened the exhibition on Monday, which was also attended by Hon Muchinguri Kashiri.

The Honourable Minister is being accompanied by The Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Philip Valerio Sibanda, the General Manager of the Zimbabwe Defence Industries and other Defence officials.

On the second day, Minister Muchinguri Kashiri and her delegation were joined by Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Egypt, Air Marshal Retired Shebba Shumbayaonda for a meeting with the Egyptian Minister of Defence and Military Production, General Mohamed Zaki.

The two Ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation in the military and other fields including military training and education, logistic services, military and war industries, military medicine, public affairs and sport, cultural and social activities among others.

This will be implemented through exchange visits, working group and experts visits, students exchange training programmes and participation in conferences and symposia, seminars and business meetings.

Zimbabwe is participating at the EDEX as it seeks to modernise and mechanise its defence forces through partnerships and technology transfer intandem with modern trends.

Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri said, “Participation in EDEX 2023 is pursuant to the vision of the Second Republic on the recapitalisation and modernising of the ZDF through defence equipment procurement, innovation, research and development, technology transfer, joint ventures and partnerships with defence production industries of friendly nations.”

She pointed out that she was impressed by the immense contribution by Egypt’s armed forces in socio-economic activities through infrastructure development, something which the Zimbabwe Defence Forces is striving to do back home.
