Story by Memory Chamisa

GOVERNMENT says 7 000 more teachers are set to be recruited under the ongoing recruitment exercise of primary and secondary education teachers.

As the contentious issue of examination pass rates took centre stage during this Wednesday’s National Assembly Question and Answer Session.

While some schools recorded satisfactory pass rates, others performed poorly due to the limited number of teachers.

The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Dr Evelyn Ndlovu revealed that government is set to recruit more than 7 thousand teachers to improve the teacher pupil ratio.

“Government wants to have an enabling environment for all students especially the ones in rural areas where the pass rate is not pleasing at all. We have also received budget on resources that will capacitate the recruitment of teachers especially in rural areas where there is a significant shortage,” she said.

Government also emphasised it’s commitment to improving health services for its citizenry while also capacitating health personnel.

“As the Second Republic, were are working on improving our health care services at our hospitals, clinics as we move towards achieving world class medical services. Our health services personnel remain critical in the vision and their capacitation remains important to the government, noted the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Innovative Development, Professor Amon Murwira.

Construction of new health care centres, waiting rooms for expecting mothers, procurement of essential equipment and drugs have been witnessed across the country as the Second Republic improves access to health care.
