Zimbabwe has scaled up preparations for Osaka Expo 2025 which is held after every five years, after it emerged that the Expo 2020 Dubai held two years ago brought huge economic spin-offs for the country.
ZimTrade chief executive officer, Mr. Allan Majuru was appointed by Government as the Osaka Expo 2025 Commissioner General.
In a media briefing in Harare this Tuesday, Mr. Majuru revealed that six sub-committees have been created to oversee preparations to attend the Expo which will be hosted by Japan in 23 months’ time.
“The six committees include that of budget to undertake resource mobilisation to make sure that it’s all systems go for gracing this important global gathering,” he said.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador James Manzou noted the significance of participating in such global trade shows.
“Our participation at the Dubai Expo 2025 proved to be fruitful as we had several memoranda of understanding have been signed in various sectors of the economy,” he said.
Japan is hosting the global trade showcase which it promises to be a huge opportunity to engage with the world.
“Japan has huge economic opportunities that we think Zimbabwe can also tap into. This will be a good time to engage with key global economic players,” noted Japanese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Satoshi Tanaka.
Government is eyeing to promote the tourism industry, increase exports and grow new investments through attending the 6-month long business event which will run from October 2025 to April 2026.
