Government has called for stern measures to be taken against errant drivers to reduce road carnage on the country’s roads.
This comes after four learners lost their lives on Wednesday when the truck they were travelling in collided with an Inter Africa bus along the Harare-Chivhu highway.
Acting President General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga visited the accident scene in Beatrice where he also met some of the survivors.
The Acting President proceeded to lead a clean-up programme at Beatrice Business Centre where the community is recycling waste to maintain a clean environment and enhance climate change mitigation initiatives.
Dr Chiwenga also planted trees at Beatrice Primary School as part of the country’s afforestation efforts in response to the negative impact of climate change.
Addressing the Beatrice community, Acting President Chiwenga said the maintenance of clean environments plays a key role in reducing diseases, at a time when the country is battling a cholera outbreak.
He further called on the media to play a key role in promoting the spirit of Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo/Ilizwe Lakhiwa Ngabanikazi Balo.
With General elections set for the 23rd of August, Dr Chiwenga called on Zimbabweans to maintain peace during the election season.
Zimbabwe will go to the polls on the 23rd of August to vote for the President, members of the National Assembly and councilors.
