THE national netball team, the Gems have broken camp and are expected to regroup midmonth as they continue preparing for the World Cup slated for South Africa from the 28th of July to the 6th of August.
After leaving a lasting impression in their debut appearance at the World Cup four years ago, the Gems hope to do better when they take on the world’s best teams in this year’s World Cup in South Africa.
Zimbabwe has been holding periodic camps as they sharpen their skills ahead of the global showpiece and they are expected to regroup mid this month.
Zimbabwe finished eighth in the last World Cup in the UK and hope to improve come July this year.
“We know we did well the last World Cup but now we need to do even better we are targeting a top four finish because we ha e been preparing hard,” noted Gems Vice Captain Sharon Bwanali.
The Vice-Captain, who also played at the last tournament, knows the benefits of doing well at such a stage.
“We are also targeting to have many players to go outside right now, we only have Felisitus (Kwangwa Gems captain) playing abroad, but if we play well, we expecting four or five more players to be bought by international teams so this motivates us to fight hard,” she added.
Zimbabwe is in Pool A together with record winners Australia, Tonga and Fiji, with the top two sides in the group will move onto the last eight of the tournament.
