THE Zimbabwe senior netball team, the Gems have left for Cape Town, South Africa ahead of the Netball World Cup which gets underway on the 28th of this month.

It was song and dance at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare this Thursday as the Zimbabwe netball team, the Gems left for national duty in Cape Town, South Africa.

Pledging to give their all, the Gems are eyeing history, targeting a better performance at the World Cup in Cape Town after finishing eighth in Liverpool back in 2019.

The players are in high spirits, with head coach, Ropafadzo Mutsauki making the team’s intentions clear.

“We are going there to compete, we are competitors. So we are going to compete and we need this trophy, we are aiming for it,” said Mutsauki.

The Gems are however cautious in their determination to fly the nation’s flag high.

“We are quite excited to go and feature at the World Cup for the second time in a row. There’s high morale in the camp as you can see everyone is singing all the way to the check-in. So we would say to our lovely fans please keep rallying behind us, we’re going to try our best to make sure we lift the country’s flag on high,” said Gems player, Felistus Kwangwa.

The Gems will play three friendly matches against England, Barbados, and Scotland before they kick off their World Cup campaign on the 28th of this month.
