A fusion of two cultures was on display in Mvurwi on Saturday night when beauty queens merged local traditions with valentine in a beauty pageant dubbed Miss Valentine.

To cap off a week in which love is celebrated worldwide, the Stone and Water Resort in Mvurwi organised a Valentine-themed beauty pageant merged with a traditional showcase.

The winning beauty queens were elated, highlighting that apart from building confidence, modelling gives exposure to the girl child.

“I am so happy to have won the crown, this is not my first title, I have also scooped other awards,” said one of the models.

Another added, “Modelling is good for the girl child as it helps us get confidence, grooming and deportment. It also exposes us to career opportunities.”

“I am pleased to emerge among the top winners. Modelling is a hobby for me but it does have a lot of benefits in girl child promotion,” said another model.

Event organiser, Mr Blessing Mutambapadziri said the event seeks to revive the culture of pageantry in the farming town.

“Growing up in this place we used to have a lot of beauty pageants but all that has died so we want to revive this culture. There are a lot of respectable women who can testify to this, they travelled this journey,” he said.

The pageant, which attracted models from the local area, Harare and Marondera also sought to promote domestic travel to local destinations.
