The exploration of oil and gas in the Muzarabani basin by Invictus Energy is set to enter its second phase this year through scheduled drilling of the second well after log analysis of the first well revealed positive results on the availability of oil and gas.

According to the latest statement released by Invictus Energy this Tuesday, analysed results prove that there are liquids-bearing hydrocarbons within the Cabora Bassa Basin.

Due to these highly encouraging outcomes from the initial Mukuyu 1 well and the sidetrack well, the company is upscaling its scope of operations by seeking a further 12-month extension of Exalo Rig 202 to continue drilling at either Mukuyu 2 or Baobab 1 sites.

As such, the rig will be warm-stacked at Mukuyu 1 location to allow for maintenance and upgrades.

Invictus Energy managing director Mr Scott Macmillan says the company has achieved fantastic results from Mukuyu 1 and the sidetrack well which has multiple gas zones potentially bearing liquid hydrocarbons.

Notwithstanding the technical challenges encountered at Mukuyu 1 well last month, the firm is, however, positive about the outcome of the exploration exercise earmarked at the other two sites, Mukuyu 2 and Baobab 1.

Oil and gas are critical commodities that are in huge demand worldwide due to their economic value and Zimbabwe is no exception, hence the government is giving all the necessary support to the prospecting of the two commodities in the Muzarabani basin.
