Dynamos set to begin 2024 season preparations

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

HARARE giants Dynamos are set to begin their 2024 season preparations this Tuesday ahead of a bumper year that will see the club competing both on the domestic and continental front.

The Glamour Boys will regroup this Tuesday as they aim to mount a title challenge as well as compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Dynamos finished the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season last year in third position after a roller-coaster season.

However, the club managed to win the Chibuku Super Cup, granting them a chance to compete with other regional powerhouses.

Dynamos coach, Genesis Mangombe, the man who finally ended Dynamos’ near-decade wait for a trophy, believes an early start is key.

“We need to build on what we had last season, so for us to do better we have to plan well and prepare for the season that why we are starting early because we have new guys that will join the club they need to understand how we play and how we function as a club,” he said.

Dynamos will have a two-week training session in Harare before moving to a remote place for team building and continued training.

The team will then return to the capital to conclude their preparations ahead of the start of the season.

The 2024 PSL season will start at the end of next month, with Dynamos facing league winners Ngezi Platinum Stars in the Castle Challenge Cup, before league action commences the following week.

Meanwhile, Dynamos are fighting to retain their key players with Mangombe’s preferred centre-back pairing of last year, Captain Frank Makarati and Kelvin Moyo attracting foreign interest from South Africa, Tanzania and Malawi.

DeMbare will, however, need to find replacements for winger Issa Sadiki who has joined Manica Diamonds and defensive midfielder Junior Makunike who is now in the books of Simba Bhora.

The Glamour Boys have openly stated their ambitions to bolster their misfiring strike force as they go on the hunt for a league title, a decade after they last hoisted the trophy.
