Division One football heats up

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

THE ZIFA Northern Division One league enters week four with the clash between Herentals U20 taking on Chinhoyi United at Morris Depot being the headline act.

Last year’s runners-up, Herentals U20 are plotting revenge against Richard Chunga, the Chinhoyi Stars coach who dented their title hopes last year when he was still in charge of Chegutu Pirates.

Pirates beat Herentals 1-nil, a result that ended their unbeaten run and also opened up a four-point gap against Simba Bhora who were later crowned champions.

Now with a chance to inflict revenge on Chunga, Herentals are however smarting from their first defeat of the season after going down to Harare City last week, while Chunga’s new side, Chinhoyi have only won one of their three matches this season.

In other matches, former premiership side Harare City take on Karoi United at Callies Sports Club, while Pam FC battle Golden Eagles at Muriel Mine.

New kids on the block, Mwors FC host Banket United at Ngoni Stadium in Norton with Come Again taking on Ngezi Platinum Stars U 19 at Rimuka Stadium in Kadoma.

A battle between two of last year’s top three sides, TelOne and ZPC Munyati is the highlight of the action in the Central Region.

In other matches, Shabanie Mine hosts MSU at Maglas Stadium, FC Platinum U19 are up against Chapungu at Gresham Stadium with Kwekwe United battle Loss Control at Baghdad Stadium.

Moving onto the Eastern Region, it is week three with Ruwa taking on Masvingo United at Windsor Primary School.

Tenax FC takes on Renko Mine, while Bikita Minerals are up against FC Wangu Mazodze and Mutare City Rovers battle Surrey at Sakubva stadium.

Rugby action continues in Harare with the Paramount Garments Northern League getting into week two with matches in the Premier League and division one.

Old Georgians clash with returning UZ Stallions, while new boys Pitbulls take on Police Defenders in the Premier League.

In the women’s division, GS Raiderz tackle Old Hararians, while OGs Pitbulls will be up against Hatclief.
