Companies scramble to list on ZSE

THE Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) has received an overwhelming response from companies representing various sectors of the economy that are keen to list on the local bourse.
As part of the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE)’s strategic initiatives to promote listings, the ZSE is conducting a prospective issuers training programme.
The structured initiative is designed to offer guidance, support, and mentorship to potential issuers who are interested in accessing capital markets through an initial public offering or other listing methods.
Launched in February, the training programme has seen 20 companies from across different sectors of the economy being listed.
“We now have a final list of twenty companies, we had an overwhelming response and we had to go through the list of people that had applied and selected twenty companies. So the first training starts on the 16th of April and there is another one in May and another one in June. We are quite excited about the calibre of companies that we have selected as our finalists. The companies are from all sectors of the economy; agriculture, financial, mining, technology, real estate, so quite a diverse range of companies,” said ZSE Chief Executive Officer, Mr Justice Bgoni.
The ZSE highlights the significance of the training programme.
He added, “We know that one of the reasons why companies don’t list the stock exchange is because they don’t understand how to do it, they are just scared and some of them don’t know the benefits. We are not targeting the people who help companies to list only, it’s also companies that are listed as well to explain to prospective issuers to say these are the benefits when we listed, this is what we do as a listed company.”
The training programme is expected to expedite the growth of the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange, positioning the resort city as a financial services centre in the region.
