Chevrons post a below par 115 as West Indies take lead on day one of the second Test

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

The West Indies closed day one for the second Test with an 18 run lead over Zimbabwe after the Chevrons posted a below par 115 with the visitors ending on 133 for 4.

Zimbabwe won the toss and failed to make the most of a good batting wicket after they crumbled to 115 all out.

Innocent Kaia led the scoring for the home side with a fluent 38 off 52 balls before he was caught by Mayers off the bowling of Jason Holder.

Bowler Donald Tiripano was the second highest score for the home side as he was 23 not out at the end of Zimbabwe’s first innings.

However in between those knocks left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie picked up seven wickets.

The young spinner was undoubtedly the star of the day as the visitors flexed their muscles.

Raymon Reifer hit a half-century, while Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Jermaine Blackwood also got starts as West Indies finished the day with a lead of 18 runs.

Wellington Masakadza got Kraigg Brathwaite for the third time in the series and then Brandon Mavuta struck twice, with a run-out off his bowling also sandwiched in between that cost Reifer his wicket.
