The Africa Development Bank has commended the second republic for instituting policies which promote economic development amid high hopes that continued engagement with the institution will ensure further growth.

A visiting Africa Development Bank (AfDB)’s technical delegation led by Executive Director, Dr Luis Ngimbi met the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira as part of the ongoing engagement towards the country’s debt resolution plan.

Dr Ngimbi took the opportunity to commend the government for making reforms that impact the economy positively.

“We need to have a better understanding of government reforms as we make our submissions, but I commend the Government of Zimbabwe for promoting economic development that is impacting on growth. There is a need to intensify discussions on new measures and capitalise on long-hanging fruit,” he said.

Professor Murwira reiterated the government’s progress in making key economic reforms

“We have been making several reforms towards re-admission, one of which has been the acceptance of POLAD by SADC and AU. I can say POLAD is making progress in bringing socio-economic stability to the country. It is our hope that H.E former President Joachim Chissano and AFDB president’s buy-in will yield positive results for us,” he noted.

The dialogue is a key statement of government intent towards re-engaging with multilateral institutions, having hosted the AFDB President Akinwumi Adesina and His Excellency Joachim Chissano last month.

The Second Republic through President Emmerson Mnangagwa has adopted a friend to all, enemy to non-policy that is sure to propel the country towards economic development.
