THE country’s Information Communication Technology (ICT) revolution is on course, with Shurugwi being the latest to benefit from the government’s school computerisation programme.
As the nation strides towards its vision of becoming an upper-middle-income society by 2030, the role of (ICT) cannot be overstated.
It is with this in mind that Kushinga Secondary School in Shurugwi has become the latest to benefit from government efforts to revolutionise the education sector after receiving ICT equipment.
“We are happy to be receiving these laptops because we have been lagging behind in terms of ICT gaps. This is a good initiative for us,” said a student.
Another said, “I think this will play a key role in achieving and contributing to the country’s growth because the programme has come to us in the remote areas. This confirms the government’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.”
Shurugwi South Legislator, Honourable Wilson Mhuri indicated that the equipment will go a long way in the implementation of the Heritage-Based Education Framework in rural schools.
“This is a good initiative and we want to thank the government for remembering this school. This development will play a key role in contributing to the dictates of National Development Strategy One and bridge the gaps in the education sector,” said Honourable Mhuri.
The government’s commitment to a digital economy is in line with the goals of the Second Republic, which seeks to modernise the country’s business operations.
“President Emmerson Mnangagwa recognises the need to harness the demographic dividend of young people and their ICT skills as key pillars to propel the country towards Vision 2030,” said Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube.
The computerisation programme is a deliberate strategy to bridge the digital divide across the country.
