THE 2023 International SMEs Expo held in Harare this Friday brought together local and regional exhibitors from across various sectors to share ideas and establish markets for their products.
The expo, an event that celebrates and promotes small to medium enterprises, attracted a diverse range of business players from across Zimbabwe and the region.
This year’s edition showcased innovative products, services and success stories from budding entrepreneurs.
“My business started small and has grown over the past few years. I have ornaments used by Jah Prayzah in his Chiremerera amongst another local artist,” said one of the exhibitors.
Another said, “As a producer of locally made detergents, our biggest challenge is how we are compared to other brands, when in fact our quality is superior. We hope more people will support SMEs as we strive to make competitive products.”
“I make leather shoes and other leather products. I am grateful to the ministry for its support in our work and hope it continues in the future,” said another exhibitor.
The event was graced by the Minister of Women Affairs, Community and Small to Medium Enterprises, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa who emphasised the significance of women’s participation in business, acknowledging their potential to drive economic growth and social development in Zimbabwe.
“It is inspiring to witness the incredible talent, creativity, and dedication of our women entrepreneurs here at the SME Expo. They represent the very essence of resilience and determination,” she said.
SMEs are the major employment creators in the country hence calls for more support to promote the growth of the sector.
