Two criminals face 23 counts of theft

Story by Kenias Chivuzhe

TWO suspects who were allegedly terrorising areas in and around the city of Mutare have been arrested, leading to the recovery of goods worth thousands of United States dollars.

Simon Karuma (45) and Donald Madondo (26) from Rusape are facing 23 counts of unlawful entry and theft.

Residents who recovered their belongings after the arrest of the duo, have pledged to continue collaborating with law enforcement agents to reduce crime in their localities.

ZRP Manicaland Provincial Community Relations and Liaison Officer, Inspector Nobert Muzondo revealed the circumstances surrounding the arrest of the duo and the goods recovered.

‘‘I would like to confirm that police in Manicaland made an arrest with respect to two male adults namely Simon Karuma and Donald Madondo from Rusape in Makoni. These criminals had terrorised areas such as Hobhouse, Chikanga and Dangamvura. Acting on a tip-off, our detectives managed to arrest the two accused persons on Saturday and managed to recover the property that we have seen. There are seven televisions, eight gas tanks, a cell phone and various household utensils. It is our appeal to the members of the public to visit the CID office in Mutare and identify their property. So far eleven complainants have managed to identify their property.’’

Collaborations between the police and members of the public continue to be critical in curbing crime across the country.
