Duo accused of fraud involving coupons worth US$20 000

Story by Peter Chivhima

TWO Harare men have appeared in court for allegedly defrauding Golden Peacock Villa Hotel of US$20 000 after hacking into the company’s system.

Tapiwa Musoko and Caroline Chinyamunyamu appeared at the Harare Magistrate Courts this Wednesday facing charges of fraud.

It is alleged that in August this year, the co-accused gained unlawful access to Golden Peacock Villa Hotel’s ACF bank details before instructing the complainant’s bank to transfer US$20 000 to purchase 13 000 litres of fuel, which they collected as coupons.

The co-accused’s shenanigans were discovered a few weeks later, which led to the arrest of the two.

In another case, Brian Katsande of Chitungwiza has appeared in court facing allegations of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.

Circumstances are that on the 4th of this month, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics Harare received information that the accused was dealing in dangerous drugs at his place of residence in Hatcliffe, Harare.

Acting on the information, the detectives proceeded to his house where they found the accused in possession of the drugs
