NOTORIOUS armed robber Calvin Gasura has been slapped with a nine-year jail term after being convicted of robbery involving US$30 000 and a car.
Gasura, who was convicted after a full trial, will serve an effective nine-year jail term, with the magistrate noting that armed robbery is a serious offence which should not be taken lightly.
She added that cases of armed robbery are on the increase, hence lengthy custodial sentences will send the right message to would-be offenders.
In November 2020, Garusa and his accomplices, who are still at large, attacked a family from Dema and got away with US$30 000, a gun and a car, among other valuables.
He also assaulted the complainant’s pregnant wife to instill fear.
Garusa is also among suspected armed robbers who allegedly targeted business premises in Harare, Chegutu and Chinhoyi and made off with more than US$200 000.
Some of the cases are still pending before the courts.
