Transport ministry deputy director appears in court for fraud

Story by Peter Chivhima

THE Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development Deputy Director Road Services Division Enerst Shenje has appeared in court on allegations of fraud involving US$200 000.

In his initial court appearance this Saturday, the state called the investigation officer from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission to the witness stand who argued Shenje has a case to answer for facilitating fraudulent payments to one Levy Idana.

However, Shenje denied any wrongdoing, arguing he is just being victimised.

It is the state’s case that Shenje demanded more than one million United States dollars as compensation for a property that was affected by the construction of the Mbudzi interchange at the intersection of Simon Mazorodze, Chitungwiza and High Glen Roads.

The court heard that Shenje working together with Idana who is still at large and some lawyers, manufactured a fraudulent agreement of sale purporting that Idana owned Subdivision A of Subdivision B of Delft of Hopley which was in the name of John Maloney.

The court also heard that through Shenje’s facilitation, Idana was paid US$200 000.

Shenje will be back in court on Monday for ruling after challenging placement on remand.
