THE people of Mbalabala are living in fear after the body of a 40-year-old man was found in a state of decomposition with missing parts.
Police have since arrested a commercial sex worker and another man in connection with the gruesome act.
In what has sent chills down the spine of villagers of Mbalalabala, the 40-year-old man, identified as Freeman Moyo was brutally murdered and his body was mutilated for suspected ritual purposes.
Word on the street alleges that the deceased asked for the services of a commercial sex worker at Mbalabala Business Centre, who then took the client to her lodgings in the village.
It is further alleged that in the morning, the deceased only had ZWL400 against the charged fee of US20 which resulted in a fight.
The deceased is said to have run away, only for his body to be discovered in a decomposing state with missing palms .
This has left the community on the edge .
“We are now living in fear , imagine someone getting killed and palms removed,” said a villager.
“We are scared our children might also be killed whilst looking after cattle . We are so saddened by what happened and we believe the police will do their job because already we saw other people having been picked,” said another.
The village head, Mr Rhodes Ncube commended police’s swift reaction.
“As a village, we are saddened by the way that man was killed, but what I am happy about is that the police have made arrests and they are investigating and their swift reaction was commendable,” he said.
The village rumour mill alleges that the missing parts were discovered at the accused’s lodgings, but police are waiting for DNA tests to ascertain if the parts match the discovered body.
Matabeleland South acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Stanford Mguni confirmed the incident saying investigations are underway.
