Nyaminyami RDC CEO up for criminal abuse of office

Story by Peter Chivhima, Courts Reporter

Nyaminyami Rural District Council chief executive officer, Cletus Matingwina has appeared in court after being arrested on allegations of criminal abuse of office involving US$900 000.

Matingwina was arrested on Thursday by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly using his powers to disqualify winning tenders for Omay North and South Sport Hunting Services.

The Sport hunting tenders had a cumulative value of over US$900 000 with Mutigwina allegedly choosing his preferred bids ranked lower by the evaluation committee.

Allegations are that sometime in November last year Nyaminyami RDC floated a tender and invited bids for sport hunting concessions in Omay North and South.

It emerged that in an act bordering on criminal abuse of office, Matingwina allegedly disqualified winning bids before creating a non-existent court case against the winning bidders.

In his initial court appearance this Friday, Matingwina was freed on a US$400 bail.
