Nine suspected armed robbers nabbed, nine fire arms recovered

Nine armed robbery suspects have been arrested and nine fire arms recovered in Harare this Tuesday.

The armed robbery suspects are Innocent Chawaguta, Tafadzwa Charute, Owen Mbayi, Promise Mussa, Tapiwa Chigwaze, Winston Matizanadzo, Kamuriwo Madziwaona, Farai Chauke and Simbarashe Vhazhure.

The gang is linked to five armed robbery cases, which include the one which occurred in Eastlea, Harare where more than US$140 000 vanished in 2022 after they allegedly tied the private security officers who were manning JP Security company premises.

The gang also stands accused of robbing a certain Service Station of more than US$1 OOO after they threatened to shoot the Service station attendant before they tied him with a rope and force marched him into a separate room where they locked him up.

The gang was arrested on the 14th of this month after one of the complainants switched on his mobile tracker leading her to one Melody Mudzimurema who is believed to be Chawaguta’s girlfriend.

Upon being quizzed Mudzimurema allegedly implicated Chawaguta who then implicated other suspects.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police’s National Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi warned would be offenders that the police will not fold their hands in the fight against armed robbery cases in the country.

“We can confirm the arrest of nine suspects who are linked to five armed robbery cases which occurred in Harare, Shamva and Mrehwa. We also discovered nine fire arms which includes pistols. The identities of the suspects will be announced and the public will be informed once investigations are done. So from here the suspects are going to Harare Magistrates.”

The suspects have since appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court this Tuesday where they were remanded in custody to the 2nd of next month.
