Masvingo man in the dock for fraud

Story by ZBC Reporter

A Masvingo man, Concelater Mazuru (31), has been slapped with a three-year jail term by the Chipinge Magistrate Courts after he was found guilty on four counts of fraud involving a sum of UD$4 500.

Circumstances are that Mazuru, from a period extending from November last year until now, has been duping his employer Timothy Sigauke (33) of Timly Furnitures, into paying for non existing deals after forging customers’ loan papers.

The court heard that Mazuru, who was responsible for selling electronic gadgets on credit through a local micro-finance company, Red Sphere, forged customers signatures and inserted their bank details as having purchased the high value mobile phones and laptops.

Prosecution proved that his employer, Sigauke, unknowingly acted upon the misrepresentation and handed over the convicted person gadgets which include Samsung cellphones A04E, A04, A03, 500watts solar light, CIDEA Tablets, and HP laptops worth over US$4 500.

Mazuru will effectively serve two years in prison, while twelve months have been suspended on condition of good behavior and eleven months on condition that he restitutes the stolen amount.
