A Hwange man will spend the next 11 years behind bars after he was convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl. Lesuthu Mnkandla (35) was sentenced to 14 years in prison with three years being suspended on the condition of good behaviour.
During the trial at Hwange magistrates court, Mnkandla pleaded guilty but said the girl had consented.
He was however reminded by the state that anyone below the age of 18 has no capacity to give sexual consent.
In another matter, two men from Victoria Falls appeared in court this Tuesday charged with illegal possession of ivory weighing 8.9 kilogrammes, with an estimated value of over US$2 000.
Cephas Charumbira and Dickson Munkombwe were arrested after they allegedly fell into a trap set by law enforcement agents.
The pair have been remanded in custody until the 11th of this month.
