A 52-year-old man from Harare’s Epworth suburb has been arraigned before the courts after allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.
Peter Sithole was allegedly caught raping the 12-year-old girl and was remanded in custody.
He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court after appearing at the Harare magistrates court this Monday.
It is alleged that the accused was selling rat poison when he went on to rape a girl who showed interest in the product.
The court heard that the accused asked for Vaseline petroleum jelly from the girl and followed her to the house where he allegedly raped her.
A housemaid is said to have caught him sexually abusing the girl.
Meanwhile, two teenagers, who were nabbed for breaking into shops where they stole electronic gadgets worth thousands of United States dollars have appeared in court facing charges of unlawful entry.
The duo of Thabani Bhebhe and Munashe Taruvinga, both aged 19, was remanded in custody after appearing in court this Monday.
In another case, a daring employee at a Harare-based travel company, who allegedly organised for the firm’s accountant to be robbed has appeared in court facing charges of robbery.
22-year-old Roy Makunike, who is employed as a driver at the travel company, is alleged to have roped in three accomplices, who are still at large to stage a robbery which saw the company losing US$78 000.
