Epworth Court has handled over a thousand cases since March

Story by Peter Chivhima

MORE than one thousand cases have been concluded at Epworth Magistrates Court, which opened its doors to the public in March this year.

The Epworth suburb in Harare is one of the beneficiaries of the Second Republic’s justice decentralisation initiative, and to date, Epworth Magistrates Court has handled more than one thousand cases with domestic violence, theft, and assault dominating court proceedings.

ZBC News is also informed that out of more than 1 800 were completed while in excess of 560 people were convicted.

The development has also brought relief to the local leadership.

“Since the coming in of the second republic, we have seen a lot of development including infrastructure development. As a testimony to this development, we have seen the construction of Epworth Court here. The court is helping this community a lot. Our people have been facing challenges in terms of transport but now we are saying changes,” said Epworth Town Secretary, Dr Wilton Mhanda.

The construction of courthouses across the country is part of the government’s inclusive development agenda of leaving no one and no place behind in the development agenda.
